How to Connect Your PayPal Account

To connect PayPal, you will need to generate a REST API Client ID and Secret key in the PayPal Developer Portal.

  1. Navigate to Payout Settings: From your merchant dashboard, go to Settings > Payout.

  2. Enable PayPal: Toggle the PayPal setting to active to begin the setup.

  3. Open the Developer Portal: Click the Developer dashboard link inside the configuration box to open the PayPal Developer Portal in a new tab.

  4. Log In: Sign in with your PayPal Business account credentials.

  5. Select the Live account option in the top-left menu.

  6. Create an App:

    • Navigate to Apps & Credentials.

    • Click Create App.

  7. Enter an App Name (e.g., Simple Affiliate Payouts).

    • Set the type to Merchant.

    • Select your business account and click Create App.

  8. Copy Your API Credentials:

    • Copy the Client ID.

    • Click the eye icon next to Secret key 1 to reveal it, then copy the Secret key.

  9. Validate and Connect: Return to Simple Affiliate, paste both values into the PayPal Client ID and PayPal Client Secret fields, then click Validate and connect. Our app will test the credentials to confirm the connection.

  10. Active PayPal status: The PayPal status will update to active if the PayPal Client ID and PayPal Client Secret are valid.

Managing PayPal Payouts & Affiliates

Once your PayPal account status displays as Active, you can configure additional payout features:

  • Monthly Schedule: Enable the Monthly schedule toggle to automatically generate payout batches at the end of each month for partners who meet your minimum commission threshold.

  • Set as Default Method: Select the Default radio button next to PayPal to require PayPal details on your signup form.

  • Invite Existing Affiliates: Click Invite affiliates to connect to automatically email existing partners to add their PayPal email address inside their affiliate dashboard.

  • Update Credentials: Click Update PayPal credentials at any time if you generate a new secret key or change accounts.

Important Rules to Remember

  • Live Payouts Approval Required: PayPal requires your business account to have Live Payouts approval enabled. Ensure you have requested Payouts access within your PayPal account before attempting to process live payments.

  • Signup Form Behavior: Setting PayPal as your Default payment method automatically adds the PayPal email input field to your public signup form.

  • Custom Translations: You can translate or customize the payout field labels shown to your affiliates by navigating to Settings > Translations.
