Q: Can I use subdomains to track referrals?

A: No, referral tracking across different subdomains is not supported in Simple Affiliate. However, tracking through subdirectories is supported.

Subdomains (Not Supported)

Our tracking system relies on browser cookies to attribute sales. Due to standard browser security policies, these tracking cookies cannot be shared between different subdomains.

This means if a customer clicks a link that directs them to one subdomain (e.g., de.yourdomain.com) but they complete their purchase on your main domain (e.g., yourdomain.com), the referral connection will be lost and a commission will not be tracked.

Subdirectories (Fully Supported)

On the other hand, using subdirectories (also known as subfolders) for different languages or regions works perfectly. The tracking cookie will persist across all pages in this structure.

For example, a customer's journey from yourdomain.com to yourdomain.com/de/ will be tracked correctly without any issues.
