How to manually assign a referral

This guide explains how to manually create a referral and assign commission.

Sometimes a sale happens that doesn't get tracked automatically—perhaps a customer forgot to use a link, or an affiliate drove a word-of-mouth sale offline. In these cases, you can manually "link" a Shopify order to an affiliate to ensure they get their credit.

You can manually assign a referral to any Shopify order that does not already have a commission attached to it.


How to Manually Assign a Referral

Before you start, make sure you have the Shopify Order Number and the Affiliate’s Email Address handy.

Step-by-Step Guide

  1. Navigate to the Referrals Section. From your main merchant dashboard, go to the "Referrals" section in the side menu.

  2. Open the "Add Referral" window. Click the "Add referral" button located in the top-right corner of the page.

  3. Enter the Order and Affiliate Details. A pop-up window will appear with two fields:

    • Shopify Order number: Enter the exact order number (e.g., #1001) from your Shopify Admin.

    • Affiliate email: Enter the email address associated with the affiliate you wish to credit.

  4. Save and Confirm: Click the "Save" button.

Once saved, the system instantly creates the referral. The commission is calculated automatically based on that affiliate's current group settings.


Important Rules to Remember

  • One Referral Per Order: Shopify orders can only have one referral attributed to them. If an order already has a commission (even a reversed one), you cannot use this tool to add another.

  • Automatic Calculation: You don't need to calculate the math yourself. The app pulls the order subtotal from Shopify and applies the affiliate's specific commission rate automatically.

  • Real-Time Sync: The manually added referral will appear in the affiliate’s dashboard immediately, just like an organic sale.

  • Order Status: You can only assign referrals to orders that exist in your Shopify Admin. If the order hasn't been created yet, you'll need to wait for it to appear in Shopify first.


What Happens Next?

The affiliate will see this new referral in their "Referrals" list. If you are doing this as a special bonus or to fix a tracking error, it’s a great idea to send them a quick note letting them know the credit has been applied.
