Manually Reversing an Affiliate Referral
This guide explains how to manually cancel a referral and its associated commission from an affiliate.
This feature is typically used to correct errors or manage exceptions, such as:
An order was refunded or returned outside of the standard Shopify process.
You need to reverse the commission for a specific reason.
Important: Reversing a referral is a permanent action. If the commission has already been paid out to the affiliate, this action may result in a negative balance in their "Amount Owed" account.
Step-by-Step Guide to Reversing a Referral
Navigate to the Referrals Section. From your main merchant dashboard, go to the "Referrals" section.
Find and Select the Referral. Use the search bar to find the specific referral you wish to reverse. You can search by Shopify order number, affiliate email, or other order details. Click on the referral in the list to open its detailed view.
Initiate the Reversal Within the referral's detail view, locate and click the "Reverse referral" button.
Confirm the Action. A confirmation pop-up will appear to prevent accidental cancellations. To proceed, click the final "Reverse" button.
Once confirmed, the referral will be canceled. The associated commission will be deducted from the affiliate's "Amount Owed," and the referral's status will be updated to "Reversed" in your reports.
