How Payouts Appear on Bank Statements
When an affiliate receives a commission payment, the transaction on their bank statement will typically follow a specific, branded format. This ensures that the payment is immediately recognizable as coming from your store.
The General Descriptor Format
Most payout descriptors are structured using the following logic:
PAYOUT-[STORENAME]
For example:
If your store name is Vandelay Industries, the descriptor will appear as something like:
PAYOUT-VANDELALY.
Factors That Affect the Descriptor
While the general format remains consistent, the exact text an affiliate sees can vary based on a few key factors:
Your Account Configuration: The "Store Name" used in the descriptor is pulled directly from your Simple Affiliate account settings. It is important to ensure your brand name is entered correctly here to avoid confusing your affiliates.
Payment Processor Logic: Different banking institutions or payment processors may truncate long names or add their own internal transaction IDs. However, the core
PAYOUT-[STORENAME]The prefix is designed to remain visible.Branding Updates: If you change your store name in your settings, the descriptor for future payouts will update to reflect the new name.
Important Rules to Remember
Consistency is Key: Use a store name that matches your public-facing brand. If your legal entity name is different from your store name (e.g., "XYZ Holdings" vs. "Awesome Shoes"), ensure you use "Awesome Shoes" in your payout settings, so affiliates recognize the payment.
Descriptor Length: Keep your store name concise. Some banks have character limits for descriptors; very long names may be cut off.
Affiliate Support: If an affiliate cannot find a payment, advise them to search their statement specifically for the word "PAYOUT" followed by your brand name.
What Happens Next?
To ensure your descriptors are accurate, navigate to your Settings and verify that your "Store Name" or "Display Name" is exactly how you want it to appear on your affiliates' bank statements.
